UPROOTED | A DOCUMENTARY ABOUT HUMANS WITHOUT A HOME

Coming to United Way of the National Capital Area, I knew I had found an organization interested in building this platform with me. To be brutally honest, the process has been very difficult. I am blessed and grateful that my training in school as an actor has allowed me to sit across from people as they pour out their soul. Years of trauma, abuse, neglect, violence, isolation-- all finally getting the opportunity to manifest. #UPROOTED is a story of loss, of recovery, of relapse, of breaking, and fixing, humility and the redemptive power of love.

The objective was clear: create platforms in our community that help people experiencing homelessness and those at risk to advocate for their experiences. There's a lot of intellectualism surrounding this topic; we understand economic disparity from an intellectual standpoint, we come to terms with homelessness as an economic probability, we see the most visible symptoms of homelessness as the stereotype for everyone experiencing it-- and as these ideas ferment, they allows us to dissociate empathetically from the people experiencing it. The goal of this project was to occupy the conversation around homelessness in a personal space; to invite vulnerability on a topic so many of us are hardened by.

coming soon: scorched earth | a poetry series on climate change

This is an open commission. Anyone interested in submitting poetry on climate change for my next series "Scorched Earth" is welcome to hit me up. The series seeks to open discussions about the implications of climate change in our communities across the region & the globe.

NEW RELEASES: #HUMANSWITHOUTHOMES

#HumansWithoutHomes is a series of ongoing advocacy pieces centered on providing a platform for people experiencing homelessness to share their experience and hone their voice. I have worked with five separate poets in the region to direct and film a cinematic portrayal of their spoken word poetry in an effort to raise awareness towards the issue and destigmatize stereotypes.
